    True Love

    There have been several blogs that I have visited lately that have picked "LOVE" as their topic.
     
    I received this in an email today and wanted to share it because it is what LOVE means to me!
     
     It was a busy morning, about 8:30 , when an
     elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have
     stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a
     hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am .
     
     I took his vital signs and had him take a seat,
     knowing it would be over an hour before someone
     would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his
     watch and decided, since I was not busy with another
     patient, I would evaluate his wound.
     
     On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of
     the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his
     sutures and redress his wound.
     
     While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he
     had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he
     was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that
     he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast
     with his wife.
     
     I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had
     been there for a while and that she was a victim of
     Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she
     would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that
     she no longer knew who he was, that she had not
     recognized him in five years now.
     
     I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go
     every morning, even though she doesn't know who you
     are?"
     
     He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She
     doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."
     
     I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose
     bumps on my arm, and thought, "That is the kind of
     love I want in my life."
     
     True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True
     love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will
     be, and will not be.

    Wow. The oldtimers sure do have a way of putting things, don't they?
    That is I am assuming he is a bit older, by the way he was described.

    This entry made me think of my grandad who died of Parkinsons. His final years meant he did not know anything that was going on around him. My gran used to walk to the local hospital where he was a five mile round trip every day and sat with him and fussed over him as though they were at home in their own home. This entry is one of the most powerful I have read for a while my friend. I thank you for remining me of two people I loved and that I am blessed to understand exactly what this entry means.

    *sob* oh dear .. that is so beautiful.  I get reminded of "50 First Dates" .. even though it's an Adam Sandler comedy when it was over I looked at my girlfriend and said with a huge sigh "That's the kind of love I want.  Where someone loves you enough to try and get you to fall in love with them every day, over and over and over again" ...   wouldn't be great if we all did that for our loved ones?  Perhaps it would cut down on the divorce and loneliness in the world?

    I love this one!! And you're right...Love is not a feeling or act....it is a decision to act a certain way...
    Also, I think we might be twins, ya think? I also have no natural children, but quite a few "step"...have never been legally married...don't remember all that much of my childhood, except for certain times and activities...and I have also frozen my doors shut in the winter!   Do you think we were separated at birth? And, I agree, those tests are freaking me out...they're so true! I have to get away from them...
